Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), presidential candidate, has set up a committee to pacify and woo the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike and some other aggrieved members of the party.
According to reports stechitegist gathered, the initiative was instituted by Atiku based on the need to go into the 2023 general elections with a united front.
Governor Wike is widely rumoured to be plotting an exit from the PDP following his loss at the party primaries and not emerging the running mate to Atiku Abubakar.
This has indicate that the opposition party feared Wike might work against Atiku’s ambition
Signs that the PDP might run into stormy waters became pronounced with the defection of some of Wike’s supporters from the party in the last 24 hours.
However, a former member of the House of Representatives, Ogbonnaya Nwuke, who wondered why the Atiku committee would want the support of Wike whom they claim talks too much.
Nwuke while reacting about the committee’s move with Punch on Tuesday said, “On one hand, somebody says he (Wike) talks too much, who probably is uncontrollable. And then, on the other hand, you want him to help your cause.
You want victory and you think he can contribute to your victory. Is that not a contradiction?
“There was an attempt to draft a man who was not interested in the vice-presidency into the vice-president; a committee set up, the caucus spoke, the national working committee of the party spoke favourably about Wike and it was not honoured.”
“Atiku did what he wanted to do. So what committee is he setting up again? To do what? It doesn’t make sense.
Nwuke said no matter what happens Wike will not leave PDP whether a committee set up or not.
Meanwhile, the Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi on Wednesday, June 22 visited Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike in Port Harcourt.
It was gathered that the meeting lasted for a few hours in the personal residence of the Rivers state capital.
It is currently unclear the outcome of the meeting but it’s largely connected to the 2023 presidential elections.
Channels Television reports that on arrival, Obi was taken inside where he had a meeting with the governor behind closed doors.
The duo, however, did not speak on the purpose of the meeting, as journalists were not granted access.
