Cherie Gill, dubbed “La Primera Contravida” for her acting prowess and contributions to Philippine cinema, reportedly passed away at the age of 59.

Over the course of her nearly 50-year career, Cherie Gil has established a reputation as the “quintessential kontrabida” in Philippine cinema.

She received the Ani ng Dangal (Harvest of Honor) Award from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), a FAMAS Award, and the Metro Manila Film Festival’s “Best Supporting Actress” Hall of Fame Award.

At the 2015 ASEAN International Film Awards, she won the coveted “Best Actress” prize. She also won “Best Lead Actress in a Foreign Language Film” at the 2015 Madrid International Film Festival that year.

There have been rumors of Cherie Gill’s passing. Social media is being used to pay tribute to her. Her exact cause of death is unknown, though.

One of the Twitter users commented, “I’m devastated to learn that Ms. Cherie Gil, one of the greatest actors of all time, passed dead at 5 o’clock today, August 5, 2022. La Primera Contravida, you are forever going to be missed!”

Cherie got her start in the entertainment industry at a young age because to her famous parents and talented acting siblings. She was either portrayed as a member of the lead actor’s social group or as his daughter.

She did, however, share the lead part in the 1978 film Bubot na Bayabas with another newbie, Ronald Bregendahl (Rita Gomez and Ric Rodrigo’s son).

When it was first released, the movie was a flop. But in 1979, film heiress Lily Monteverde reintroduced her through the zeitgeist teen idol Lloyd Samartino’s Problem Child.

In the now-classic film Oro, Plata, Mata, Gil plays a gullible young woman who experiences the effects of World War II in 1982 in Bacolod. “I Love You, Boy,” which she attempted to sing, became another unremarkable hit.

In the Viva Films film Bituing Walang Ningning from 1985, Gil makes a comeback as the bad guy, giving lead actress Sharon Cuneta great support in her depiction of the famous but insecure singer Lavinia Arguelles.

She became well-known because of the line from the film, “You’re nothing but a second-rate, trying hard copycat!” Because of this favorable response, she was able to land sophisticated and alluring villain roles from the 1980s until the present.

Previously, Cherie Gil was wed to violinist Rony Rogoff. GMA-7 touted the actress’ participation in Legal Wives despite Cherie’s unexpected exit from the show.

Cherie left the program and returned to the US because she had a reconciliation with her ex-husband, the well-known Israeli artist Rony.

They divorced in 2008 after twenty years of marriage. In 2021, a relative stated that Rony and Cherie had decided to get back together thirteen years after their divorce in order to be each other’s “companion.” The assertion, however, had no effect.

Cherie and Rony renewed their friendship, which was one of the controversial reasons for Cherie’s character’s controversial absence from Legal Wives. The reputable GMA-7 management remained mum about the subject, nevertheless.

Bianca and Raphael Rogoff, the famous actress’s children with her ex-husband Roni Rogoff, and Jay Eigenmann, the actor Cherie Martinez’s child, are both famous actors.

On social media, Jay, Raphael, and Bianca have long been praised for their remarkable looks, which they acquired from both parents.

However, Cherie’s offspring can be proud of much more than simply her good looks. Her whole family has graduated from school.

While working as an audio engineer in New York, the eldest son of Cherie stays in touch with his two younger siblings, who are also citizens of the US.

In 2019, Bianca graduated from New York University with a Bachelor of Arts in Drama (NYU). Raphael has a degree from NYU as well. In 2020, he received his college diploma.
