Ajax rejected a €90 million offer from Manchester United for Antony.
The Brazilian winger has long been the Red Devils’ top attacking target this transfer window, and he has missed many training sessions in an effort to push a move to Old Trafford.
However, Ajax is refusing to budge on their asking price and will only sell Antony for a record sum. United’s most recent offer of €90 million falls just shy of that mark by about €2 million.
Antony disagrees with the Ajax hierarchy because he thinks the most recent offer was unquestionably a good one.
In part due to the uncertainty surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo’s future, United is aiming to sign two attackers before the transfer deadline, one of whom they hope will be Antony. Erik ten Hag’s recent attack problems are now made worse by Anthony Martial’s new Achilles injury.
Cody Gakpo of PSV Eindhoven is still a possibility for United, while Memphis Depay, the former No. 7 after a deal to Juventus fell through, is also being taken into consideration by decision-makers at Old Trafford.
Ajax has been in discussions with Chelsea about re-signing Hakim Ziyech, but they only want to do it on loan while the Blues would rather sell him. An alternative is Justin Kluivert, who has been in communication with Fulham.
