Manchester United and Ajax have verbally agreed to a move of Antony for €100 million (£84 million).
All summer long, the Red Devils have been trying to work out a deal with the Eredivisie giants to bring Erik ten Hag and the 22-year-old back together.
Despite the fact that Ajax has turned down three offers from United, the most recent of which was for over €90 million, there has been progress in negotiations between the two clubs, and Antony is now getting closer to his long-desired move to Old Trafford.
When asked about Antony’s exclusion from the Ajax team for their match against Utrecht on Sunday, manager Alfred Schreuder stated that “nothing had changed” in the negotiations between the two club indicate that united hadn’t offer to pay the club record fee, the armsterdam base gaints have been seeking.
Ten Hag has made it clear that signing Antony is his top priority, but United haven’t given up. Sources have told 90min that a verbal agreement has been reached with Ajax, though there are still a few details to work out. Just one week remain for United to agree to terms before the summer transfer window ends.
Even though United has put a poor start to the Premier League season behind them with back-to-back victories over Liverpool and Southampton, they have appeared lacking in quality in a number of areas. Antony’s arrival would be a huge boost for United.
That was demonstrated in the embarrassing 4-0 loss at Brentford, where Ten Hag made his players run throughout practice the additional 14km that Thomas Frank’s side covered in west London. The Dutchman did join in, thought which is said to have earned the respect of the dressing room.
