Atiku tells PDP leaders what Wike did wrong as peace meeting stalls

In an effort to resolve the internal conflict between Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, leaders of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, met in Abuja yesterday.

The crisis resulted from the PDP primary and the contentious process of choosing the presidential running mate without following the committee’s advice, which favored Wike over other candidates, Stechitegist media reports.

Atiku reportedly bemoaned Wike’s monetization of the PDP primary during the meeting, which led to the party’s problem, according to The Nation.

The report went on to say that despite Atiku’s vehement complaints about the primary’s monetization, he assured the party’s officials that the primary still went in his favor. Ahead of the 2023 presidential race, he also stated that he is ready to work with everyone and build peace, as he has been doing.

However, if Wike keeps on refusing to cooperate with them, the PDP presidential candidate reminded the party leaders that they can still win without him. Atiku claimed that President Muhammadu Buhari triumphed in 2019 despite losing the Rivers state and that this was made possible by the votes he received from Lagos, Kano, and other important states with significant voting blocs.

He reassured the party leaders that they could win without Wike and mentioned that he had a number of Rivers State PDP leaders who had agreed to work for him to win over a sizable portion of the state’s electorate.
