The prize money for the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations, which will be held in Morocco in 2022, has been increased by 150 percent, as promised by CAF, in order to make women’s football in Africa competitive on a worldwide scale.

At the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, the tournament will begin on Saturday at 21:30 local time (20:30 GMT), with hosts Morocco taking on Burkina Faso.

The competition’s total prize pool has grown from USD 975 000 to USD 2 400 000, an increase of over USD 1.5 million.

Women’s football is one of CAF’s major goals for the coming few years, according to the CAF President and CAF Executive Committee.

Morocco 2022 will get USD 500 000 as the winner of the 2018 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations, an increase of USD 300 000. In the past, winners received USD $200,000.

The prize money for the runners-up has increased from USD 125 000 to USD 225 000, nearly doubling, while the prize money for the semi-finalists has climbed from USD 125 000 to USD 225 000.
