The potential of young people is an assurance or the driving force of our collective prosperity. This is particularly of great importance to Africa, whose population is projected to represent over forty percent of the world’s young people, in less than three generations.
Presumably,, the teeming numbers of young Africans are envisaged to form over a quarter of the world’s labour force in a couple of decades to emerge. Moreover, there is growing consensus that Africa’s youthfulness will continue to grow for the next fifty years while the other continents are ageing hereby revealing how astute and productively endowed African youths are.
Countries with larger juvenile populations are more likely to be a beneficiary. Eg, Nigeria, South Africa, Ethiopia, Ghana amongst others. However, young Africans who should give momentum to the continent’s transformation are largely alienated and marginalized owing to increasing involvements and repercussions of morally ignoble acts precipitated by uneven and wild exposure to demoralizing vices such as, pornography, prostitute, gambling, alcohol, robbery amongst others.
Pornography, the subject of discuss is fondly referred to as “porn”. which is the perusal of sexual explicit images and content for sexual arousal and gratification. Everywhere in the world, porn is enjoyed by different people from different walks of life. But the act is usually prevalent amidst youths; African youths are no exception. Variety they say, is the spice of life.
A few decades ago, the porn industry have hitherto been dominated and controlled by western porn sites and hubs. But in recent years, the African porn industry have emerged with dedicated sites for erotic stories and x-rated videos with African pornstars.
Out of the 34 million HIV-positive people worldwide, 69% live in sub-Saharan Africa. There are roughly 23.8 million infected persons in all of Africa. 91% of the world’s HIV-positive children live in Africa. Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Eswatini, Zambia, and Zimbabwe among others has greater rankings.
The seeming ubiquitous invasion of this virus in Africa has drastically reduced the rate of economic growth and development. And one may ascribe the addictive and hypnotizing tendencies to pornography as the bane.
In conclusion, apart from the sexual gratification and pleasure porn consumers derive, there’s little or no benefits to pornography. instead, porn has been proven to cause addiction, low self esteem and a warped mindset to sexuality.
People who constantly consume pornography tend to have a higher tolerance for abnormal sexual tendencies and perversions, even rape. A lot of relationships and marriages have been wrecked due to unrealistic expectations and orientations that pornography has induced.
The adverse effects of pornography should be added to school curriculums in Africa with strict adherence, with great hopes it could help secure the great potentials that’s yet to gain credence in young people all over Africa.
