Darryl Hunt, the bassist for The Pogues, passed away at the age of 72, and the music industry has lost another brilliant talent.
The band announced on Twitter to confirm the news “Our sorrow knows no bounds. Our Darryl went away in London yesterday afternoon. Darryl Gatwick Hunt 04/05/1950 – 08/08/2022,” before quoting the line, “I know you want to hear me catch my breath / I love you till the end,” from their song “Love You Till the End.””
Prior to joining Plummet Airlines and The Favourites, Hunt played in The Brothel Creepers when he first began his musical career in college.
In 1986, he finally became a member of The Pogues, replacing Cait O’Riordan. He stayed through their 1996 breakup, joined them again when they got back together in 2001, and continued with them until their final performance in 2014.
The songs “Love You Till the End” by Hunt and “Mystery, Alaska” and “PS I Love You” both featured the tune. Here, you can revisit some of his work with The Pogues.
However, Darryl Hunt real cause of death is yet to be revealed.
