In advance of the general elections in 2024, the Electoral Commission (EC) has issued a warning to voters: “You will not be registered to vote if you do not have a Ghana card.”

Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, director of electoral services at the EC, informed the public of this. The alert comes after the election management organization advised Ghanaians to make sure they receive their Ghana Cards in order to avoid losing their voting rights in the parliamentary and presidential elections of 2024.

Voting in the 2024 elections will require the Ghana Card, according to Dr. Bossman Asare, the Deputy Chairman of the EC responsible for Corporate Services.

According to the EC representative, one cannot register to vote without a Ghana Card, as said in an interview with Joy News.

Thus, he has advised potential voters to get their Ghana Cards.

“Commission made the decision that now allows us to have the Ghana Card as the primary criteria in partnership with our partners.

So as soon as you obtain your Ghana Card with continuous registration, you simply visit our district office where you are located, register, and your name will be added to the voter list, the man explained.

Dr. Serebour Quaicoe concurred with Dr. Bossman’s assertion that the Ghana card will serve as the only form of identification for registration.

He stated in an interview with Accra FM that “a Ghana card must be carried as a legal document before one can be eligible to register and subsequently vote in the 2024 general elections.”

He explained that the Ghana card would assist the EC in getting rid of cases of age fraud and minors listed as voters.
