Millions of naira’s worth of property was destroyed by fire on Monday at a two-story residential structure in Woliwo, Onitsha, Anambra State’s Akunnia Street.

The final floor of the building was affected by the catastrophe, which happened about 4.35 am.

Although there were no casualties in the blaze, eyewitnesses claim that if neighbors hadn’t acted quickly before firefighters arrived and got the fire under control, it might have spread to other nearby buildings.

The State Fire Chief, Engr. Martin Agbili, confirmed the incident and stated that no lives were lost in the blaze despite the fact that the cause of the fire is still unknown.

According to him, a two-story residential building on Akunnia Street in WOLIWO, Onitsha, experienced a fire outbreak at approximately 04:35 hrs (4:35 a.m.) on July 25, 2022.

“We sent firefighters and two (2) fire vehicles to the fire scene. With the help of the public who arrived on the site before we did, the fire was fought, contained, and put out.

“Although the last floor of the structure was damaged by the fire, many people within and surrounding the blazing building were saved.

“As of the time of the fire’s suppression, the cause is still unclear, and no lives were lost.

The main issue was that the way the buildings were built left no room for emergency vehicles, making it difficult for our fire trucks to enter the street and reach the blazing building.

We departed the fire area around 6:45 a.m.
