Nigerian music icon Burna Boy beat out other nominees for “Best African Act” at the “MTV EMAs” 2022, including Ayra Starr (Nigeria), Black Sherif (Ghana), Musa Keys (South Africa), and Zuchu (Tanzania).
The distinction, which was made known during the pre-award ceremony, came after Burna Boy’s enormously successful 2022.
At the “MTV EMAs” 2022 hosted at the PSD Bank Dome in Düsseldorf, Germany, Taylor Swift was the night’s big winner, taking home four prizes. Nicki Minaj won “Best Song” and “Best Hip Hop” for “Super Freaky Girl,” while Harry Styles got “Best Live.” Taylor Swift won “Best Artist,” “Best Video,” “Best Pop,” and “Best Longform Video” for “All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version).
The live worldwide music event, which was hosted by Rita Ora and Taika Waititi, featured exciting performances from renowned musicians and honored fan favorites in 20 categories.
The Ukrainian band Kalush Orchestra gave a touching performance during the program, showing their fervent support for Ukraine.
Rita Ora, the emcee of the show, earned “Best Look ‘Personal Style’,” while Sam Smith feat. won “Video for Good.” “Unholy” Kim Petras
David Guetta and Bebe Rexha won “Best Electronic” and “Best Collaboration” for their song “I’m Good (Blue),” while BLACKPINK The Virtual PUBG Mobile won “Best Metaverse Performance” in the new EMA category.
David Guetta and Bebe Rexha performed their popular song “I’m Good (Blue)” to start the performances on a night that saw EMA hosts Rita Ora and Taikia Waititi bring the glamour and the fun with iconic looks and show moments. Guetta DJ’d from a huge riser while Rexha swung onto the stage.
For the first time ever on television, Stormzy sang the ballad “Fire Babe,” bringing the stage to a close with the help of Debbie, a special guest vocalist, and dynamic lighting.
The final act of the evening was “Power” by SPINALL, yanna, and Nasty C, who were accompanied by roller skaters wearing tracking devices that caused the stage lights to form odd patterns.
Three strong Ukrainian women – Lina Deshvar, Anna Kutova, and Anfisa Yakovina – who are advocating for the welfare and rights of those impacted by the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine are this year’s “MTV EMA Generation Change Award” honorees. They help refugees find shelter, evacuate and care for families with small children, teenagers, and young adults with impairments, offer art and group therapy to women and families who have been separated from their families, and do a variety of other things.
The award winners were recognized during the MTV EMA Red Carpet show, which was live streamed on MTVEMA.com and broadcast on MTV worldwide.
The MTV EMAs 2022 will be repeated on MTV Base DStv Ch. 322 and TV Channel On November 15 at 19:00 WAT and November 17 at 19:00 WAT, there will be 72. On Monday, November 14 at 21:00 WAT, the Awards will also be broadcast on BET Africa (DStv Ch. 129; GOtv Ch. 21).
