According to health officials in the region, the dead toll from the most recent fighting in Gaza has increased to 24, including six children. Israel denied carrying out a fresh strike that is believed to have killed children, though.
Gaza’s health ministry attributed the deaths, which included “an old woman,” and the 203 persons injured to “Israeli aggression.”
However, an Israeli government statement insisted that a missile fired by Gaza militants toward Israel had missed, and denied responsibility for a Saturday strike in Jabalia that is said to have killed children.
“During the previous few hours, there was no attack by Israeli security forces in Jabalia. It has been conclusively shown that this tragedy was caused by an Islamic Jihad rocket that misfired, the statement read.
“We have footage in our hands that demonstrate without a doubt that this occurrence was not the product of an Israel Defense Forces strike,” the statement reads.
The number of children killed in the Jabalia strike was not immediately known. According to an earlier toll from the health ministry, one kid, a five-year-old girl, was killed in an air strike on Friday.
