In favor of Peter Obi, the Labour Party candidate for president, more than 15 political parties came together on Friday under the umbrella of the Coalition for Good Governance.

Out of all the contenders running for president in 2023, according to the alliance, only Peter Obi can keep Nigeria from falling apart.

The deregistered parties made the decision after carefully researching each presidential candidate to determine who they believed to be the most trustworthy and credible, according to a statement issued by the group and jointly signed by its national chairman, Okey Chikwendu, and publicity secretary, Don Anthony Harmattan.

18 political parties passed INEC’s test in 2020 after 74 were deregistered on the grounds that they did not adhere to the constitutional conditions governing the continuation of political parties in the nation.

The deregistered parties, however, asserted that they still had their organizational frameworks in place and pledged their collective support for the former governor of Anambra State’s achievement.

The Coalition for Good Governance, which is made up of 15 deregistered political parties and some former presidential candidates, said in the statement, “We have previously stated that the results of the political parties’ primaries for the presidential ticket and selection of the vice presidential tickets will determine which party we, the Coalition for Good Governance, would endorse and support for the 2023 presidential election. The decision is based on finding the ticket with the most trustworthy candidates who have been investigated, are regarded as reliable, and have the necessary intellectual capacity to save our country from the ruin in which we find ourselves and to satisfy the aspirations of the Nigerian people for a government that is equitable, just, and fair to all, regardless of tribe or ethnicity.

“In addition to the foregoing, on July 28, the CGG held a meeting in Abuja that was well attended by the National Party Chairmen and former presidential candidates of deregistered political parties whereby they took a very critical appraisal of all the current presidential contenders for the 2023 presidential elections and their Vice, the house unanimously voted Peter Obi/Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed as the most credible among the candidates and as such resolved to support and work with him.

For the initiative, we consequently decided to rebrand all of our offices as Campaign support offices. Our structures must now back the Obi ticket across the 36 States and 774 Local Government Areas.

“Nigerians have had enough of the division, impending disintegration, ongoing ASUU strike, terrorist threats, killings, kidnappings, hunger, unemployment, intolerable petrol prices and scarcity, high electricity tariffs, its epileptic condition, rising food prices, etc., as well as the establishment’s continued lack of resolve to end these crises.

The parties urged Nigerians to heed their counsel and support their goals of restoring Nigeria as the true giant of Africa and the production hub of West Africa. “We as leaders in mainstream politics in Nigeria wish to make clear that only an efficient, effective and credible candidate of renowned character can resolve most of Nigeria’s lingering problems,” the parties said.
