Jerry Ward, a renowned bodybuilder and competition judge, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 46.
His passing is tragically the most recent in a string of sporting disasters.
The exact cause of death is not yet known. A few hours prior to his passing, Ward uploaded a video to his YouTube channel. He was reportedly talking about perhaps having pulled his left rib, according to Dave Palumbo of Rx Muscle.
Palumbo claimed that he initially believed he had hurt himself while moving luggage and that the problem had gotten worse after using a massage chair.
Palumbo claims that despite a buddy advising Ward to get it checked out, he chose to take it easy.
On Friday, July 22, promoter Gary Udit posted on Instagram to confirm the tragedy, saying: “Sadly, we lost a great friend today with the passing of Jerry Ward.
Jerry passed away overnight. He was in Pittsburgh providing commentary for the NPC Teen, Collegiate, and Masters Nationals Live Stream.
“Over the years, Jerry was a great competitor, judge, expediter, head judge, and PPV commentator in the NPC and IFBB PRO LEAGUE.
“His expertise in the bodybuilding discipline was unmatched. Jerry was well-liked and adored by everyone he encountered.
