Joe Biden tested positive for Covid-19 a second time and is now back in seclusion, according to his White House physician, who attributed the finding to “rebound” positives following the US president’s treatment.
Following four days of negative tests, the 79-year-old Biden “tested positive late Saturday morning, via antigen testing,” and “shall reinitiate rigorous isolation precautions,” according to a memo from the president’s doctor, Kevin O’Connor.
O’Connor stated, “This in fact represents’rebound’ positivity,'” referring to a circumstance in which patients taking the medication Paxlovid, like Biden, clear the virus but test positive after finishing their treatment.
“The president continues to feel fairly well and has not had any recurrence of symptoms. Given this, there is no justification for starting treatment again right now, he continued.
The first positive test result was received on July 21. Three days later, O’Connor announced that Biden had tested negative for the illness and was no longer required to isolate.
