Ma’aji Shettima Arfo, the former general manager of Maiduguri Flour Mills, was sentenced to seven years in prison on Friday by the Court of Appeal Sitting in Gombe for allegedly stealing millions of Naira from the Borno State Government and Nigerian flour mills while he was the general manager of a limited liability company.

Recall that in November of last year, the Borno State High Court in Maiduguri sentenced Ma’aji Arfo, a state worker, to 28 years in prison for defrauding a N86.1 million contract.

When he was the General Manager of the state-owned Maiduguri Flour Mills Limited, where he perpetrated the fraud, Arfo was sentenced to prison by Justice Haruna Mshellia of Borno State High Court 3.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission filed six counts against him for offenses that may have amounted to abuse of power and giving himself an unfair benefit.

According to the charge sheet, Arfo committed numerous frauds between 2014 and 2020 while serving as the General Manager of the Flour Mill, in violation of Sections 12 and 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000, which are punishable under the applicable sections of the same Act.

According to reports gathered by Stechitegist Media one of the accusations on which he was found guilty, he gave Falkwat Multilinks Limited, a private firm of which he was a director, many contracts to supply maize and diesel to Maiduguri Flour Mills.

In the meantime, his appeal ran into a brick wall because the court yesterday unanimously ruled Arfo guilty of all accusations against him and dismissed his appeal as meritless.
