“Obasanjo brought Colombians to help Buhari with insecurity.” – Osita Chidoka

Osita Chidoka, a former minister of aviation in Nigeria, remembered how previous president Olusegun Obasanjo tried to address the security issues plaguing the country under President Muhammadu Buhari’s rule. Speaking on Channels TV, Chidoka supported Obasanjo’s suggested fix by outlining how Nigeria may gain insight from Colombia’s past.

Speaking on the subject, Chidoka remarked, “Existential crises provide nations with the chance to rebuild their security architecture.” Since Colombia too faced crimes like kidnapping, FARC insurgents, drug lords, and several cartels, I frequently use Colombia as an example.

To help create a special force, their government sought assistance from Britain and America. They came to the conclusion that while their police and military could not be fixed, a special force might be established to deal with these rebels.

The outcome is clear. “The cartels were devastated,” he said, “and the FARC rebels turned away from armed struggle.” Colombia used special forces to turn around a situation that was worse than Nigeria’s in less than ten years. By delaying a national fix, an issue cannot be resolved.
