Obasanjo Meets List Of Best Leaders In Nigeria, Others Will Shock You

Eminent Nigerians have described former President Olusegun Obasanjo as one of the best leaders Nigeria has produced.

They unanimously agreed that Nigeria remained backward because Obasanjo’s successors did not build on his legacies.

” He is a statesman and the only Nigerian military leader to voluntarily hand over power to civilians regardless of the sweetness of power.

Though out of office, Obasanjo is never passive on national issues”.

These are some of the words guests and speakers said about the former president at the presentation and launch of, The Man, The General, The President (MGP), a book written by Otunba Femmy Carrena

Carrena, who was a Special Assistant to Obasanjo between 2003 to 2005.

Carenna described Obasanjo as a forthright leader who does not mince words on national issues.

Chief Dave Salako who stood in for Kessington Adebutu, the book launcher said that the third term agenda was not idea of Obasanjo but those he called sycophants, around him. He said Obasanjo was loved by all because of his humane disposition to nation building.

On his part Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem described Obasanjo as the ‘main issue’ in the country’s politics as a leader who counselled and helped him attain giant steps in the governance of the state,

“He counselled me like a father, some may classify him as the main issue in Nigerian politics. As a former military Head of State and two times Commander-in-Chief, his legacy continues to shape Nigeria in the Comity of Nations, In Akwa Ibom, we consider him a father and a friend,” he said.

For the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, who was represented by Oba Sooko Elugbaju, described the former president as the solution to Nigeria’s problems, a Nigerian nationalist that was not tempted by the perks of office.

“He is a nationalist, the military leader to voluntarily hand over power to civilians regardless of the sweetness of power”, the Ooni of Ife said.
Also, Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Lagos State, Adedeji Doherty noted that Obasanjo is a disciplinarian, firm and bold leaders committed to the unity of Nigeria.

Akin Osuntokun, a former aide to the former president described him as a leader who if needed, “stake political positions and make pronouncements with the unintended consequence of hurting or bringing out the worst in otherwise admirable compatriots.”

Mr. John Momoh, chairman of Channels Television in his opening remarks presented via zoom said though Nigeria has been plagued by good, bad and ugly leadership, that Obasanjo stands out as one of the best leaders the country has had in recent times, and described him as a listening courageous and destabilised leader who hates injustice.
