Rasaq Tahoeed, a 22-year-old tricycle driver, has been detained by the Police Command in Ogun for allegedly raping and robbing a female passenger at Iyana-Coker in the state’s Ifo Council region.
The suspect was apprehended after police officers at the Ifo Divisional Headquarters got a distress call on Monday, June 20, at around 4:00 a.m., according to a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, on Wednesday in Ota.
According to the PPRO, the middle-aged traveler raised the red flag when Taoheed allegedly took her to an unidentified location after she allegedly boarded the tricycle at Iyana Coker in Ifo.
Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Ifo Division, CSP Kehinde Kuranga, immediately led his patrol squad to the area in response to the distress call, where the culprit was swiftly apprehended. During questioning, the victim told the police that she had taken a tricycle to Iyana Coker from the Pakoto bus stop, “but the suspect suddenly pulled out a locally produced pistol and threatened to shoot her if she did not cooperate.”
She continued by saying that the culprit forced her into a sexual act at the Olose Primary School in Ifo.
“The suspect then put her back on the trike and began driving in a different direction after raping her and taking her money.
He added that when she arrived at the Aritameje neighborhood, “but she saw some people and she raised alarm, which led to the arrest of the culprit.”
One locally made pistol was found on the suspect, according to Oyeyemi, who also claimed that the suspect had confessed to the crime.
