An agent of the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Ondo Command, has been apprehended with 16 rounds of live ammunition in a bag. The suspect has been identified as Destiny Agbaijoh.
Mr Agbaijoh, 25, was detained in Ondo during a traffic stop-and-search operation.
Ondo’s NDLEA Commandant, Kayode Raji, told reporters in Akure, the state capital, on Wednesday that the suspect had been arrested.
One AK-47, one pump action, 91 5.56 mm rounds, 16 cartridges, and N 347,000 in cash were found in the suspect’s possession,” Mr Raji said.
According to him, the suspect tried to bribe NDLEA officers using the money recovered on him.
Nonetheless, my guys quickly rejected it, taking the man in to be questioned immediately.
He went on to say that the suspect’s Ak-47 had been tampered with because he thought it belonged to the police.
It appears that one of the magazines bears an inscription resembling that of the Nigerian police, along with some ammunition.
Aside from that, when we queried him about the purpose of his strap bags when he was detained, he didn’t respond, saying that confessing to the crime would result in his death;
Mr Raji continued, “The bag appears like a place where they keep dead bodies or mangled remains of humans.
Asked by reporters how he got the bag holding the weapons and ammo, Mr Agbaijoh stated he is a timber merchant in the bush.
My community in Agadagba, Ese Odo are of Ondo, is where I found the bag, wrapped in a nylon bag inside the woods.
According to the suspect, when asked why he didn’t call the cops, he stated he didn’t expect to end himself in trouble.
It was further indicated by Ondo NDLEA Commandant that the suspect would be handed over to the police for additional investigation and prosecution.
“We have done our preliminary investigation and we are going to hand him (suspect) over to the Nigeria police,” he said.
