On Tuesday, August 30, agents of the Ogun State Police command captured Emmanuel Thompson and Joshua Godwin, two individuals who had been charged with gang raping an 18-year-old woman (name withheld).
The suspects were detained in response to a complaint made by the victim at the Ogijo divisional headquarters, alleging that she boarded a commercial motorcycle at around 8 am on the specified date from the MRI company area to the Ogijo bus stop, according to a statement made by SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, spokesperson for the state Police command.
The rider, who was also carrying another male passenger, abruptly reversed course and started threatening the girl, saying they would murder her if she disobeyed.
She also stated that they had dragged her into a room in a nearby house where two additional men were waiting for them. After arriving, the accompanying male passenger and the two males they encountered in the room alternated in forcing themselves on her.
Following the information, CSP Onatufe Umoh of the DPO Ogijo division dispatched his investigators to the spot, where two of the accused were detained while their other accomplices fled.
The two suspects who were detained have admitted to committing the crime.
