Residents of Lokoja, the capital of Kogi State, fled for safety in the early hours of Tuesday after hearing a loud explosion near the town’s always-busy post office area.
In fact, the device went off near the offices of Kogi State’s Secretary to the Government, the Ministry of Women Affairs, and the Ministry of Chieftaincy Affairs, according to Daily Trust.

Around 8.30 a.m., an explosion rocked the neighborhood, sending workers and residents scrambling for cover. The blast occurred as people were returning to their offices and shop owners were setting up for the day’s business.

Officials say they’ve learned that an unidentified object, maybe a bomb, has been spotted near the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, which is directly across the street from the secretary of state and ministry of chieftaincy affairs offices.

The event was confirmed by the state’s top cop, Edward Egbuka, when reached for comment.
After receiving a report of a suspicious package on the grounds, the bomb disposal unit was dispatched promptly to investigate.

It was our bomb disposal unit’s activity that caused the explosion you heard, as they swiftly blew up the device.

However, he stated that an inquiry has begun to determine the object’s character and determine its purpose in the area.
