…Students union presidents will storm with protest Abuja during the ASUU strike.

According to the Council of Students Union Presidents, if the Academic Staff Union of Universities’ continuing strike is not called off, its members would storm the Federal Capital Territory for a peaceful protest.

The group, which consists of the presidents of all the federal university student unions in Nigeria, gave the federal government a seven-day deadline to settle the dispute with ASUU in a letter to Adamu Adamu, the minister of education, dated July 19, 2022.

Stechitegist Media gathered from an interview with Punch News that the CSUP Convener, Shuaib Yahaya, stated that all of the Student leaders have agreed not to back down from their decision to begin the planned demonstration

He emphasized that some students are now involved in illicit activities as a result of the country’s continuous strike action.

He declared, “After the seven days, we will carry out a mass action that will involve all SUG presidents in Nigeria and we will be assembling in Abuja and we continue to demonstrate peacefully until the Strike is called off. If the federal government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities do not reach a resolution.

Every time we delegate specific people for the benefit of others in the long run, they compromise. As far as we are concerned, we are not working with any delegation.

“Nobody is prepared to come and make a compromise this time. We are prepared to take on the sacrifice and difficulty.

“An idle hand is the devil’s workshop,” he continued, “so many of our students have taken up the act of illegal activities because they are at home doing nothing. The strike’s goal of increasing online fraud was achieved.

“However, if classes were in session and students were actively participating in academic pursuits, there would be no such thought of engaging in online fraud.

Personally, I should have received my diploma by now, which would have happened a month ago. However, I am still here and before we can go back, I am waiting for ASUU to end its strike. The degree of interest in education may decline as a result of the strike.

“If a student stays at home and does nothing, they start to think differently, and if this differently starts operating, you can be sure that their interest will be lessened.

“As students, all we want is for the federal government and ASUU to settle their differences. Every negotiation table has a space where both parties will eventually need to make a concession on some specific issue.

“We are unsure of what they must do, but our worry is that they must settle the problems and call off the strike within seven days.” Added he.

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (ret. ), gave Mallam Adamu Adamu on Tuesday instructions to end the protracted strike by the four university-based unions and submit a report to him in two weeks, by Tuesday, August 2, 2022.
