The Supreme Court of Nigeria has dismissed the action brought against the Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP, to compel it to zone its presidential ticket to the South.
Cosmos Ndukwe, a previous PDP presidential candidate and the most recent deputy speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, filed an appeal against Iyorchia Ayu, the party’s national chairman, questioning the party’s stance on allocating its presidential ticket.
In the 2023 presidential primary, the PDP left the party’s ticket available to interested members from all regions of the nation to run, which helped former Vice President Atiku Abubakar emerge as the front-runner.
The Supreme Court lacks authority to hear the case since it is a PDP internal matter, according to the panel of judges who decided to dismiss the lawsuit.
