In one of Slovakia’s major hospitals, a patient’s healthy eye was accidentally removed during an eye procedure instead of the damaged one, leaving the patient blind.

On Wednesday, the TARS news agency released a report.

A spokesman for Bratislava University Hospital stated the surgeon who performed the procedure was no longer in contact with patients.

The hospital provided counseling and support to the victim’s family so they could deal with the effects.

The health supervisory authority has reportedly begun a probe into how this rare incidence may have occurred, according to TARS.

A labor dispute in the Slovak healthcare industry was taking place at the time of the terrible error.

A week ago, the physicians’ organization LOZ reported that about 3,000 doctors were prepared to resign if the miserable salary and working conditions did not change.

The remaining doctors in Slovakia had been overworked for years as a result of a staff exodus, particularly to the Czech Republic and Austria, and the coronavirus outbreak made matters worse.
