Two women were murdered after being accused of being witches by youths from the Ebbaken community in the Cross River State local government district of Boje and Boki.

Currently, the lynching of the two women known as Mrs. Martina Osom and Mrs. Rose Akom is causing havoc in the neighborhood as several locals denounce the act.

An eyewitness claimed that the victims, devout Catholics, were attacked by the youths as they were leaving early morning prayers. The youths had accused the widows of initiating a neighbor into witchcraft.

The victims were tortured into confessing, he claimed, “but their fervent pleas that they were innocent fell on deaf ears.”

He said, “They were both bound with thick ropes and beaten in the rain all day long until they died.
