U.S: Four Police Officers Were Charged For Killing A Black Woman, Breonna Taylor

The FBI has detained four police officers in connection with the 2020 slaying of Breonna Taylor, a black woman.

On Thursday, August 4, the police were detained.

For their actions in the fatal shooting of Breonna Taylor at her house in 2020, four current and former police officers from Louisville, Kentucky, were charged by the FBI with violations of their civil rights.

According to the FBI, Kyle Meany and Joshua Jaynes, two Louisville police officers, willfully provided false information to obtain Taylor’s search warrant, which allowed them to enter her home and shoot her.

In 2020, when the nation was grappling with the coronavirus pandemic, the death of Taylor, a 26-year-old emergency medical technician who was unarmed, was one of a trio of cases (along with Ahmaud Aubrey and George Floyd) that sparked a summer of protests against racial injustice and police violence.

Former Louisville detective Brett Hankinson was the only officer engaged in the raid who had previously faced charges.

But a jury earlier this year found Hankinson not guilty despite the fact that he fired 10 shots during the encounter. He is one of the four individuals who will be charged with new crimes by the US Department of Justice.

The other two are currently employed cops Kelly Hanna Goodlett and Kyle Meany, as well as retired officer Joshua Jaynes.

On Thursday, Attorney General Merrick Garland made the additional accusations public. He stated that civil rights violations, illegal conspiracy, unlawful use of force, and obstruction were all charges against the cops.

Garland continued, saying that all three of the officers—aside from Hankinson—had been accused of forging a search warrant.

When Hankinson fired during the raid, he is accused of employing excessive force.

Breonna Taylor ought to be alive right now, Garland told the media.

The name and address of Ms. Taylor were on the search warrant that the police had received. Authorities believed that Jamarcus Glover, an ex-boyfriend, was a member of a drug ring and had used her flat to conceal drugs.

Despite Jefferson County Prosecutor Thomas Wine’s claim that the search had been suspended following the shooting, no drugs were discovered on the premises.

The Taylor family sued the Louisville police in 2020, and they settled for $12 million (£9 million).

The family’s attorneys responded to the Thursday announcement of the fresh accusations by saying: “Today was a tremendous step toward justice.”

During the raid, Taylor’s boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, mistaken him for an intruder and shot one of the police officers in the leg. But the Justice Department later dropped the allegations against him. It might also interest you to read Manchester United: Ronaldo Receives A Message From Nani
