Temenu Boluwaji, a police inspector, was killed in an attack on a police station this morning by unidentified gunmen in Akure, the capital of Ondo state.
The intense gunfight between the police and the attackers apparently resulted in injuries to a number of additional on-duty police officers.
According to information obtained by Vanguard, the gunmen assaulted the Okuta Ekerinla police station in the middle of the town at around one in the morning.
As of publication, nothing was known about their purpose.
The deceased was shot during a gunfight and passed away while traveling to the state hospital.
However, Funmi Odunlami, a spokeswoman for the state police command, confirmed the attack.
In a brief statement, Odunlami said that “On July 25, 2022, at around 1:00 am, hoodlums assaulted Okuta Elerinla Division, in Akure.
The criminals were prevented from entering the station by police officers who were on the alert and focused on their duties.
“One of our brave station guards, AP.207538 0INSPR, was caught in the crossfire. Temenu Boluwaji was shot, and on en route to the hospital, he passed away”.
