“The night before, I was in the studio with him, me, him, and Polo.” He had flew out that same night,” he said on the Million Dollaz Worth Of Game Podcast.”He was in New York the night before it happened, so he flew out, and I had no idea he flew out, so when I saw the shit on Instagram and saw n-ggas reposting it, I was like, ‘Why n-ggas posting fake news like that?'”
On February 19, 2020, Pop Smoke was murdered in his Los Angeles rental home during a home invasion.He continued: “I know the n-gga not in L.A. Home invasion, but he don’t live in L.A.? It was true, and I thought, ‘Oh sh-t.’ I was getting so many calls, and that’s when I realized it was all true. That sh-t was brutal. It took a toll on everyone.”
In April 2019, record producer Rico Beats introduced Pop Smoke to Steven Victor following his rise to fame. Pop Smoke would later sign a recording contract with Victor Victor Worldwide and Republic Records. In July 2019, he released his debut mixtape Meet the Woo.
Meet the Woo 2, his second mixtape, was released on February 7, 2020, and debuted at number seven on the Billboard 200, making it the rapper’s first top-10 project in the United States.
