Chief Anayo Arinze, the African Democratic Congress’ chairman for electoral matters, has warned the Labour Party and Peter Obi, its presidential candidate, not to be fooled by their large social media followings.

Arinze claimed that individuals using social media to promote the LP and its candidate were simply doing so to mislead the public because the Independent National Electoral Commission did not have polling stations on these sites.

At the ADC stakeholders meeting on Sunday in Awka, he made this statement while pointing out that Obi’s appeal was largely based on social media and that the LP would not advance because it lacked a structure and no politicians to support its candidates for the 2023 election.

He claims that the general election in 2023 will be fiercely contested in all of the states of the Federation and will be unique from previous elections.

I don’t think the Labour Party would make much progress in the election, he declared. They presently hold the social media victory. All tiers of government, including Anambra State, where their presidential candidate is from, lack structure.

“How do you expect them to have votes on the election? They have no offices where they do hold meetings other than social media platforms.”

He added that the Labour Party, which lacks a grassroots organization, would need a miracle to win the election, particularly in Anambra State.

According to him, the aim of the ADC stakeholders’ meeting was to lay out the party’s strategy and that of its candidates for the general election in 2023.

He boasted that, starting with Prof. Pat Utomi and continuing with the late Dr. Obediah Mailafia, the former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, the ADC had consistently produced the best presidential candidate since its registration as a political party in Nigeria in 2006 under the leadership of Chief Ralphs Nwosu.

We have introduced Mr. Dumebi Kachikwu, a highly accomplished businessman, builder, and entrepreneur who has enterprises spanning 20 countries on four continents, to Nigerians for the 2023 presidential election. Dumebi is prepared and motivated to change Nigeria completely into a superpower and a respected member of the international community, the speaker continued.

He urged party members to demonstrate their fervor, dedication, and patriotism once more for the party and all of its candidates.

“Since ADC is on the verge of achieving significant election victory in 2023, I beg all of you to remain loyal to the party, refrain from engaging in anti-party actions as many of you are currently doing, and concentrate on the ADC campaigns. Make sure your wings are completely covered. Let’s work to elect Mr. Dumebi Kachikwu and the ADC in 2023, he said.
