A former minister in charge of Cooperatives and Marketing in ApolloNNilton Obete’s Government, Yonasani Kanyomozi, was pronounced dead on Sunday, August 28, 2022, at Akasero Hospital in Kampala. The veteran politician died of prolonged cancer.

Yona Kanyomozi’s life, without a doubt, allows for a distinct understanding of society. He suddenly came across as someone who has been politically and philosophically steadfast for decades, just as one was ready to characterize him as abnormally inflexible.

He recalls the one-story house he purchased in 1984, lived in from 1990 to 1993, rented it out to cover the mortgage, and moved back in 2012. Former cooperatives minister and Bushenyi South MP Yona Kanyomzi deceased at 82 from cancer today at Nakasero Hospital. Kanyomozi has held several positions in the past, including minister, national and local legislator, activist, and technocrat.

Yona Kanyomozi was the former minister for cooperatives and MP for Bushenyi South. Yonasan Bankobeza Kanyomozi was born on June 29, 1940 in Kajara, Ankole region to late Zakayo Kamugaruire Bwanugu and mum Tofasi Rwemagye (Mari) Bashorora. He graduated with an honor Bachelor of Science in economics from the London School of Economics. In 1969, the shrewd politician graduated with a master of Science in administrative science at the graduate Centre.

He belongs to the Uganda People’s Congress of Obote (UPC). During Obote II’s rule. The veteran politician additionally represented the residents of Bushenyi South Constituency from 1989 through 1996. Kanyomozi served as Kajara Country’s representative on the National Resistance Council (NRC).

Additionally, he has consistently opposed the National Resistance Movement (NRM) administration of President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni. Yona was a former Minister of cooperatives and Marketing in Obote 2 Govt, NRC Member & EALA MP. Moreover, he was M7’s Teacher at Yale School.

Early in the restored East African Community, Kanyomozi also served as a representative in the East African Legislative Assembly in Arusha. He is the stepbrother of Maj. Mugissha Muntu, a former army general and current party leader of the Alliance for National Transformation.

Yona Kanyomozi Wife And Children

The former minister was survived by his wife and four children. Two of his children live in Uganda, whereas the other two work abroad because of the political influence, thus making it difficult to find work in Uganda. Yona’s wife Dorothy Kanyomozi died in March 2015 at Nakasero Hospital after battling a long spell of diabetes.

The politician at the time of his wife’s death recalled the memories of how he first met his wife in the 1970s and bonded they shared as being one soul from two bodies. Kanyomozi said,” during my exile, I met her in Kenya, and we cohabited before deciding to get married. My dear taught me how to become a man of people because she was a hospitable person who welcomed many guests into our home. She was also given the name BAtasya by my people, which means “one who welcomes.”

The president of the Uganda Federal Alliance, Ms. Betty Namisango Kamya, was related to Mrs. Kanyomozi via maternal descent. On March 15, 2015, Dorothy, who had left five children behind, was laid to rest in the Rwashemerirwe Ntungamo neighborhood. The leader lived in his home with his family in Mbuya. This is not a palace for the elderly or a house for the wealthy. This home is typical; dated but unaltered.

The children’s pool, where Kanyomozi spent his downtime, is close to the veranda and offers breathtaking views of Mutungo, Luzira, and the ever-changing city skyline. Kanyomozi himself used to trim the lawn as a hobby. The house and the owner resemble twins created in various wombs in specific ways. The mansion has survived the tumultuous government change and the problematic separation with Mzee Yona over a mortgage dispute. It has witnessed generations come and go, with only his grandson, wife, and housekeeper remaining.
